The most commonly used lens material in glasses today is any of several plastic formulations. Of the materials used in glasses, Columbia Resin #39, or CR39, is the most common and least expensive plastic material available for glasses today. Columbia Resin no. 39, or "standard plastic" as it is more commonly known, is the number 39 plastic polymer formulation that came out of the Columbia Resins project in 1940.
